Care: Brugmansia is a tropical plant, it must be brought inside before the first frost, otherwise it may not survive.
Brugmansia is a plant that needs a lot of water and fertilizer. To make it grow, you can use 20-20-20 fertilizer until it forms a “Y”. The flowers will then begin to grow, and you can then use some 15-30-15, to increase flowering.
You can use fertilizer each time you water the plant, and you can even the triple the quantity recommanded by the manufacturer. Water and fertilizer can then be given each day.
Brugmansia can be kept in a pot. If you put it in a big pot, your plant will grow bigger and the chances that its roots choke will be less probable. We recommend that you use a light soil-based compost (Promix or Agromix), because it is less heavy, and therefore it will be easier to move your pot aournd. These soil-based composts dry faster, therefore the roots breath better. If you keep your Brugmansia in a pot, it will need more water, and once the automn comes, you will have to bring the pot inside for hibernation. For those who keep their Brugmansia in a pot, once again to prevent it from getting choked by its roots, we recommend that you take the plant out of its pot to cut the roots. You should do this once every 2 years.
Brugmansia can also be planted into the soil, you will then have to take it in before the temperatures are below 0° Celsius.
Hibernation: Wintering helps the plant to rest during the colder periods.
If your Brugmansia is into the soil, you will have to cut its roots as much as you need for the plant to enter into the pot you have chosen, and then bring the plant inside.
Place it then in the dark in a place where the temperatures are between 5 and 15° Celsius. You will have to water it only once a month during its wintering phase.
Brugmansia can also be kept in front of a window as an interior plant. You will then have to water it when need be. Be careful!!! Don’t water it too much, because it can rot if you put too much water, let it dry between each watering.
